PROGRAMS

Daily Living Lab

  • Visit Blindconnect's office and a trained volunteer will help you learn about adaptive computer programs, try new magnification techniques and daily living tools, or review your options for living with vision loss.  We don't sell any products.  We simply want you to find what works best for you and where to purchase it most cost-effectively.

Support Groups

  • Blind and visually impaired persons meet at the Blindconnect office for peer support group.  It is scheduled on the 4th Wednesday of each month from 1:00 - 2:30 p.m.  The group is lead by a trained counselor and a blind Board member and features discussions of interest to attendees.

Plans are being developed to begin a support meeting for family and friends of blind and visually impaired persons.  It will be peer led, as well.

Self-Advocacy Training
  • Using grant monies, Blindconnect trained 13 blind and visually impaired persons through a "train-the-trainer" self-advocacy program in June, 2003.  Additional funding will permit graduates of the initial training to train other trainers and consumers throughout Nevada.  It is hoped that newly blind individuals will receive this training as part of the rehabilitation process.

Quarterly Meetings

  • Quarterly Meetings are scheduled the second Wednesday of March, June, September and December.  Members gather for a no-host meal, socialization, and speakers who focus on issues and aids for those with vision loss.

Meeting dates for 2007:

March 14 (lunch)
June 13 (dinner)
September 12 (dinner)
December 12 (lunch)

Community Events

  • Vision Forum March 12, 2008

Join other blind and visually impaired people at the 3rd Annual Vision Forum which is scheduled for March 12, 2008.  It will be from 9am to 1pm at the Las Vegas Senior Center.

There will be informational sessions, recreation (including water activities and archery) and many vendors with information and high and low-tech equipment.  Free raffles during lunch.

Once again, the large-scale free activity is co-sponsored by Blindconnect, Blind Center of Nevada, Bureau of Services to the Blind and Visually Impaired, Las Vegas Leisure Services, and Nevada Council for the Blind.
